Michael Donnelly was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin but soon relocated with his family to Brevard County, Florida and has called the area home for over 30 years. After graduation from Titusville High School in 1988, Michael enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was granted a top-secret clearance and trained as an aircraft armament systems technician. During his brief military career, Michael worked exclusively on tactical aircraft such as the F-16 and was stationed primarily on Air Force Bases within the United States. Michael was also certified to handle nuclear weapons while on remote duty assignments including Kunsan Air Base, South Korea. He is a proud military veteran of Operation Desert Storm (the first “Gulf War”).
The Beginning of a Career
After receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1992, Michael worked as an account manager, a consumer affairs advocate and a restaurant manager. While employed full time, Michael earned three college degrees including a Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies from the University of Central Florida. Shortly thereafter, he was accepted by several law schools including the prestigious Stetson University College of Law. Ultimately, Michael chose to exercise a scholarship offer to attend Florida Coastal School of Law, a private law school in Jacksonville, Florida.
Upon graduation from law school and joining the Florida Bar, Michael accepted a position as a prosecutor with the State Attorney’s Office back home in Brevard County. It was during his time there that Michael began to develop his skills as a litigator and became comfortable inside the courtroom.
Working For the People
After prosecuting hundreds of cases and representing the State of Florida in countless hearings and numerous jury and non-jury trials, Mr. Donnelly left the State Attorney’s Office to develop a career where he could use his litigation skills to better assist the people in his local community. With this goal in mind, Michael entered private practice and began practicing criminal defense and family law. While criminal law was already familiar to him, Michael was soon given the opportunity to represent many Brevard County residents who needed representation in family law matters including Contested and Uncontested Divorce, Child Custody (Paternity), Adoptions, Injunctions and Dependency. Consequently, Michael’s extensive courtroom experience has been broadened to include numerous hearings, trials and appeals within the area of family law. During the past several years, Michael has also become proficient in various other civil matters such as Guardianships, Probate Administration and Estate Planning.
Albert & Donnelly Law
In 2010, Michael partnered with Attorney John Albert and founded the Law Firm of Albert & Donnelly, located in Melbourne, Florida. Michael currently employs his years of experience in criminal defense to represent clients with cases ranging from minor traffic offenses to serious felonies. Michael also shares his knowledge of the criminal justice system by teaching a college course on the subject of criminal law. He also maintains a busy family law practice handling Contested and Uncontested Divorces, Paternity Actions, Child Support and related matters. He is licensed to practice in all Florida state courts, as well as the federal court for the middle and southern districts of Florida.
